Alice’s top three considerations for master data management success: 

  1. Governance is the number one priority – Demonstrate the business case for MDM by building governance and ownership of your master data. This is the foundation for driving any MDM initiative.
  1. Simplify your architecture – The proliferation of IT projects over time can result in many master data interfaces. To minimize complexities, you must understand and simplify your architecture. This comes down to ensuring proper project governance.
  1. Planning for the future – Have a long-term strategic view and build MDM today with the next 10 to 20 years in mind. This means having the flexibility to adapt to business change.

“You can have great technologies but you will not be able to implement successfully without proper ownership, accountability and maintenance.  And you need to know what you are trying to achieve over time with your data,” says Alice.
